Man Shot by SWAT After Firing Inside Hotel Room Near Atlanta Airport

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an officer-involved shooting investigation after a man was shot by police early Saturday morning at the Atlanta Airport Hilton.

The incident began around 3:45 a.m. on June 21, 2025, when a 911 caller reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from the room next to theirs at the hotel. Hapeville Police Department officers responded and attempted to make contact with the occupant, identified as 41-year-old Michael Jermaine Boyce of College Park, GA.

According to preliminary information, while officers spoke to Boyce through the closed hotel room door, he began firing a weapon. Officers secured the hallway and called for assistance from the Fulton County Police Department SWAT team.

SWAT officers arrived, issued repeated commands for Boyce to exit the room, and deployed tear gas after breaching the door. Boyce allegedly ignored commands and charged toward officers, prompting an officer to fire. Boyce was struck and transported to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured.

The GBI is conducting an independent investigation. Once completed, the case file will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
