Known Violent Suspect Barricades Himself in Augusta Home, Surrenders After SWAT Negotiation

A routine patrol led to the peaceful surrender of a known violent suspect with active warrants in the 1400 block of Hunter Street on Thursday afternoon. A Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) deputy spotted 26-year-old Terrell Crawdford, who has a history of dangerous encounters with law enforcement.

Upon seeing the deputy, Crawford immediately fled into a residence and barricaded himself inside. The Richmond County SWAT Team was activated around 1:40 p.m. after Crawford refused to exit the home. As a precaution, nearby residents and an apartment complex across the street were safely evacuated.

SWAT negotiators used a vehicle loudspeaker system to communicate with Crawford, and after a brief negotiation, he surrendered without further incident.

Crawford was wanted on multiple serious charges, including Felony Theft by Taking, Burglary in the First Degree, Criminal Attempt Carjacking, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and a Probation Violation for Aggravated Assault. Additional charges may be pending. He will be transferred to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Sheriff Eugene Brantley commended the deputy for their vigilance and quick action, as well as the SWAT team for the peaceful resolution. “We are doing everything within our power to remove violent criminals from Augusta-Richmond County,” stated Sheriff Brantley, emphasizing the unwavering commitment to community safety.
