Walmart Employee in Covington Kills Two, Injures One in Targeted Shootings at Store and Nearby Home

On Friday, April 11, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Newton County deputies responded to a shooting at the Walmart on Salem Road in Covington, GA. The store was closed at the time, with only employees inside.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a Walmart employee exited the building, retrieved a firearm, and returned inside. The employee then fatally shot an acquaintance within the store. Subsequently, the suspect encountered a second acquaintance outside the Walmart and shot them, resulting in critical injuries.
Following the incident at Walmart, the suspect forcibly entered a residence on Emerson Trail and fatally shot another acquaintance.
Authorities have clarified that this was not an active shooter situation, as the suspect specifically targeted individuals known to them.
The suspect was apprehended in South Carolina and is currently in custody. The investigation is active and ongoing.
