Newton County Jury Finds Man Guilty in 2022 AR-15 Shooting Death

A Newton County jury returned a guilty verdict on Monday, March 31st, finding Shane Alexander Robinson guilty of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony. Sentencing has been scheduled for a later date, and Robinson remains in custody.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 5, 2022, on Harvey Wood Drive. Evidence presented at trial showed that Robinson fired an AR-style firearm 13 times into a vehicle driven by Charles Edward Stanley III. Stanley sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead. The case of a co-defendant remains pending.

The prosecution of the case was led by Chief Assistant District Attorney Amber Dally, with assistance from Investigator Justin Hipps, Victim Services Director Leslie Smith, Trial Assistant Danielle Miller, and Legal Assistant Anna Sugg. The investigation was conducted by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the GBI Crime Lab.
