Savannah Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Federal Prison for Violent Armed Robbery

Jordan Richardson, 25, of Savannah, has been sentenced to 20 years (240 months) in federal prison for the armed robbery of a grocery store employee, during which two people were wounded.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, Tara M. Lyons, announced the sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Court Chief Judge R. Stan Baker. Richardson pleaded guilty to Interference with Commerce by Robbery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession and Discharge of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence.

In addition to the prison term, Richardson was ordered to pay $23,793 in restitution and will serve five years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

In July 2022, Richardson waited outside the Jones Red and White Food Store for an employee exiting with a cash deposit. He brandished a pistol and attempted to rob the employee, who drove away. Richardson fired a shot and then pursued the employee, firing at least six more times at the employee’s vehicle at an intersection, wounding both the employee and a nearby worker. He then fled with the deposit bag.

Several days later, Richardson was apprehended by Savannah police after a high-speed chase during which he crashed into two patrol cars. Investigators recovered the Glock pistol used in the robbery and shootings.

At the time of the robbery, Richardson was on probation for a prior state conviction involving robbery and gun possession. His probation was subsequently revoked.

“Jordan Richardson wounded two people during his brief but violent criminal outburst,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Lyons. “His crime illustrates the importance of keeping our community safe by taking guns out of the hands of those who are prohibited from possessing them.”

“The blatant violence Richardson committed against these store employees followed by the complete disregard for the safety of the public and the police officers during the commission of his crimes is completely reprehensible,” said Paul Brown, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta.

“I am extremely proud of our officers, investigators, and our federal partners involved in this case,” said Lenny B. Gunther, Savannah Chief of Police. “Due to their hard work and expertise, Mr. Richardson is being held accountable for his actions.”

The case was investigated by the Savannah Police Department and the FBI and prosecuted by Southern District of Georgia Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Makeia R. Jonese and Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley R. Thompson.
