Decades-Old Incest Case Leads to Arrest of Georgia Man
Larry Summerlin

A 67-year-old man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse, stemming from a 30-year-old incest case.

The Albany Police Department initiated an investigation on January 30, 2025, after a woman reported that an ancestry test revealed she was related to her mother’s stepfather. The woman’s mother, now in her 50s, had previously reported the abuse to her own mother, but no action was taken at the time.

The victim disclosed that her stepfather began sexually abusing her when she was 6 years old, and the abuse continued until she was 14 and became pregnant.

Investigators obtained medical records, school reports, and DNA samples from the victim, her daughter, and the stepfather. DNA testing confirmed that Larry Michael Summerlin, 67, had sexual intercourse with his stepdaughter when she was 14.

Summerlin was arrested at his home in Lee County, Georgia, and taken to the Dougherty County Jail. He has been charged with Rape, Child Molestation, Incest, Sexual Battery, and Sodomy.

The Albany Police Department thanked the Lee County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100 ext. 0794.
