Jana Kanyadan, the former Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Mohawk Industries, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in federal prison for defrauding the company out of millions. Kanyadan, 54, of Marietta, Georgia, was found guilty of stealing over $820,000 from Mohawk while in a position of authority.

According to the indictment, Kanyadan exploited his role at Mohawk by organizing and controlling a Georgia-based company, Meta Technology Platforms, LLC (“Meta Tech”), which he secretly used to funnel IT consulting work from Mohawk to his own company. Between May and October of 2022, Meta Tech submitted fraudulent invoices totaling more than $3 million, charging Mohawk for services and software that were never provided. Kanyadan approved inflated hourly rates and orchestrated the scheme, ultimately causing Mohawk to pay approximately $1.86 million, with $820,577 of that amount stemming from fraudulent activities.

Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating, “Kanyadan abused his fiduciary duty by stealing from the company that trusted him.” FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown added, “We will continue to investigate and hold accountable anyone who attempts to scam their employer out of funds.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Kanyadan was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and $985,166.66 in restitution. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Samir Kaushal and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Tal C. Chaiken.
