Atlanta Shines as Prime Destination for Major Sports Events
Atlanta’s reputation as a top-tier destination for major sports events was solidified in January 2025 as the city hosted the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship for the second time. Nearly 78,000 attendees filled Mercedes-Benz Stadium, marking the second-largest crowd for a CFP title game. The stadium’s southern hospitality, combined with its fan-friendly amenities, made the event a major success.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium, praised for its accessibility and affordability, is situated near the new Signia by Hilton Hotel and the soon-to-be-developed Centennial Yards, set to become a vibrant entertainment district in Downtown Atlanta. Despite the premium experience, concession prices remained reasonable for fans attending the game.
The excitement surrounding the 2025 CFP National Championship is just the beginning for Atlanta, with a busy schedule ahead. The Atlanta Sports Council is working to bring even more high-profile events to the city, including the 2025 MLB All-Star Game and FIFA Club World Cup 2025™. Over the next several years, Atlanta will host a variety of major sports events, including:
- 2025: NCAA Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 and NCAA Men’s Basketball Elite 8
- 2025: FIFA Club World Cup 2025
- 2025: MLB All-Star Game
- 2026: FIFA World Cup 2026™
- 2028: Super Bowl LXII
- 2031: NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four
The city’s strong support from the state, local government, and corporate partners ensures Atlanta’s ability to host these global events safely and successfully. The 2025 CFP National Championship alone generated an estimated $75 million in economic impact, with ticket prices exceeding $3,000 in the final hours leading up to the game. As Atlanta continues to host top-tier sports events, it remains a prime location for both fans and athletes alike.
