Child Rescued from Steep Embankment After Fall During Winter Storm in Atlanta

On January 10th, 2025, at approximately 3:44 p.m., Atlanta Police officers were dispatched to 1080 Northcliffe Drive NW following reports of a water rescue in the area. Upon arrival, officers were briefed by fellow first responders and witnesses about the situation: a child had fallen down a steep embankment, becoming stranded and injured as a result of the fall.
The child, whose age has not been disclosed, was found at the base of the embankment, visibly in distress and suffering from injuries. In response, a multi-agency team was quickly formed, including Atlanta Police, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, and Grady EMTs, all of whom began coordinating a complex rescue operation. The steep and treacherous terrain, combined with the cold temperatures due to a winter storm, made the rescue challenging.
First responders carefully devised a plan to pull the child to safety. After securing a sked stretcher and carefully wrapping the child in blankets for warmth and protection, the rescue team began the painstaking process of hauling the child up the embankment. Due to the difficult terrain, additional officers and responders arrived to assist in the operation.
As the child was carefully pulled to the top of the embankment, first responders maintained calm communication with the child, reassuring him throughout the process despite his visible pain and fear. The team’s efforts paid off when the child was finally brought to safety. The child was then transported by Grady EMTs to a local hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
