Inmate Dies Following Medical Emergency at Appling County Jail; GBI Investigates

At the request of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of an inmate at the Appling County Jail.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., jail staff responded to a medical emergency involving inmate Kenny Edwards, 50, from Baxley, GA. Officers and responding EMTs attempted life-saving measures, and Edwards was transported to a hospital where further efforts were made but proved unsuccessful.

The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
