DeKalb County Police Officers Shot Responding to Domestic Call, GBI Says

ATLANTA, Georgia – Two DeKalb County police officers were shot and wounded Sunday evening at an apartment complex on Bouldercrest Road, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now investigating. The suspect, 26-year-old Demontavious Soho of Atlanta, also took a gunshot wound when an officer returned fire, the GBI said.
DeKalb County Police asked the GBI to take the case. Both wounded officers are in stable condition at a local hospital.
What investigators say happened
According to preliminary information from the GBI, three DeKalb officers went to 2000 Bouldercrest Road at about 6:19 p.m. Sunday, November 1, for a domestic incident between Soho and another person.
The officers found Soho at a unit in the complex’s M Building and began talking with him. Shortly after, the GBI said, Soho pulled a handgun and fired at the officers, hitting two of them.
One officer fired back and hit Soho at least once. Soho then ran from the scene.
Officers with the Atlanta Police Department later found and arrested him, the GBI said.
Suspect in custody at hospital
Soho went to the hospital and remains in custody there. Once he is released, he will go to the DeKalb County Jail. The GBI said he will be booked on a charge of aggravated assault against a peace officer.
The charge is an accusation. Soho has not been convicted of anything.
Investigation continues
The GBI said the investigation is active and ongoing. The agency will run an independent investigation. When it finishes, the GBI will send the case file to the DeKalb Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
