Macon Shoplifter Who Cut Off Ankle Monitor Gets 15 Years in Prison

MACON, Georgia – A woman who stole from Macon retailers, then cut off her ankle monitor and ran while out on bond, will spend years in custody. Charlyn Worthyn pleaded guilty Friday, October 30, in Bibb County Superior Court to multiple counts of theft by shoplifting and a charge for cutting off her ankle monitor.
The court sentenced Worthyn to 15 years, with the first five to serve in custody, according to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said the thefts began in 2023. Worthyn took merchandise from several Macon stores, including Bath & Body Works, Marshalls, HomeGoods and Spirit Halloween.
After her release on bond, she cut off her monitor and evaded law enforcement until she was captured. She stayed in custody until her plea.
Probation revoked, restitution ordered
The court also fully revoked Worthyn’s probation. She must serve the remaining balance in custody.
Her sentence requires her to pay restitution to the ankle monitor vendor. She also cannot enter any of the stores she stole from.
District attorney comments
District Attorney Anita Howard said the case goes beyond the stolen goods.
“Retail theft is not a victimless crime. It drives up prices for every family in Macon and puts store employees in difficult situations,” said Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard. “Ms. Worthyn was given the chance to remain free on bond while her case moved forward, and she chose to cut off her monitor and run. That choice has consequences. When someone is released on bond, the Court and this community are trusting them to follow the rules, and our office will hold accountable anyone who breaks that trust.”
Assistant Deputy Chief Jeremy B. Johnson and Assistant District Attorney Franklin Patterson prosecuted the case.
