Macon-Bibb County Remembers Pedestrians with Safety Awareness Walk
The Pedestrian Safety Review Board (PSRB) held a remembrance walk at Macon Mall on Monday to honor pedestrians who have lost their lives in Macon-Bibb County. Participants received free lighted armbands and safety information from local organizations.
“The PSRB engaged with as many as 50 people during the educational outreach activity and Pedestrian Safety Awareness Walk,” said PSRB Board Chair Greg Brown. “Those who participated in the walk, walked in memory of pedestrians who have lost their lives along our roadways.”
This event is part of a series of activities in October recognizing National Pedestrian Safety Month. Additional events include outreach efforts in four different areas of the county frequented by pedestrians, an awareness walk, and a field trip to observe the East Macon Loop Project on Gray Highway. A flyer is available with details on dates, times, and locations.
“The Pedestrian Safety Review Board is dedicated to working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve pedestrian infrastructure throughout the entire community,” Brown added. “Educating the community on safety tips goes a long way, ultimately creating a safer and more comfortable environment for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.”
In conjunction with National Pedestrian Safety Month, several Public Service Announcements featuring local leaders have been produced to promote safer driving, walking, and cycling practices.
