Lawrenceville Home Severely Damaged in Arson; Grandson Arrested After Fleeing Scene

On Saturday night, July 20th, Gwinnett County firefighters responded at 8:53 p.m. to a report of a house fire on the 3000 block of Iron Gate Court in Lawrenceville. A 911 caller reported smoke coming from the home and confirmed that everyone had been evacuated. The caller also mentioned that the grandson of the occupants had attempted to burn the house down.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the house significantly engulfed in flames, particularly in the garage and the backside of the home. Firefighters deployed three hose lines to extinguish the fire and searched the structure, confirming it was clear of occupants. The house sustained extensive fire damage. One individual was assessed for a minor medical complaint, but no transport was required.

Three adults were in the home at the time of the incident. A neighbor witnessed someone fleeing the scene after setting the fire with gas cans. This individual jumped the fence into the neighbor’s yard, where the neighbor detained him until Gwinnett County police arrived. There were no operational smoke alarms in the home at the time of the fire. The adults were alerted to evacuate by the neighbors.

Fire investigators determined that the fire originated on the ground level in the back corner room and ruled it as intentionally set.
