Suspect Arrested in Murder of 16-Year-Old in Savannah

On July 7, 2024, Savannah Police Detectives responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of 49th Street and Florance Street. The incident resulted in the death of a 16-year-old male.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., officers arrived at the scene following reports of gunfire. They found the victim suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The injured teenager was promptly transported to Memorial Medical Center for urgent medical care but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Following an investigation into the shooting, authorities identified 19-year-old Dawontay Williams as the suspect. Williams was apprehended by law enforcement on July 8th. He now faces charges of murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the incident.
