Lawrenceville Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase with Child in Vehicle
Gwinnett County Police Department apprehended 21-year-old Alessio Vaduva of Lawrenceville after he led officers on a harrowing high-speed chase with a young child in his vehicle. The incident unfolded during a targeted operation spanning five days in June aimed at curbing racing, reckless driving, and DUI offenses.
The pursuit began around 1:00 a.m. when a vigilant officer from the DUI task force observed a black BMW zooming down Interstate 85 at an alarming speed. Attempting to pull the vehicle over, the officer was met with defiance as Vaduva accelerated, fleeing from law enforcement. Utilizing air support, the Aviation unit located the BMW after it exited onto Pleasant Hill Road, its headlights ominously switched off.
Throughout the pursuit, Vaduva recklessly maneuvered through streets, endangering both himself and others. Eventually, the chase culminated in a residential neighborhood within Duluth, where Vaduva abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot with a two-year-old child in tow.
Responding officers established a perimeter and promptly apprehended Vaduva. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked into Gwinnett County Jail on a litany of charges, including felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, speeding, driving without headlights, and several vehicle safety violations. Additionally, Vaduva faces charges related to failing to obey traffic signals and improperly securing the child in the vehicle.
Fortunately, the child emerged unscathed from the incident and was safely released to a family member’s care.
