Man Arrested for Choking and Burning Victim to Death in Albany
Early Friday morning, at approximately 4:58 AM, Albany Police responded to a distress call at 419 W. Tift Avenue. The call came from Romeigus Darnell Benjamin (39), who claimed to have fatally choked a man and set him on fire.
Officers found the body of Edward James Gilmore (68) inside the residence, with signs of burns.
Benjamin was arrested and admitted to the crime during questioning. The altercation reportedly began after Gilmore had contacted the authorities about Benjamin earlier that night.
