GBI Investigating Death of Sautee Nacoochee Man at Wildlife Management Area

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently probing the death of Trevonte Jamal Shubert-Helton, 29, of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia. This investigation comes at the behest of the Towns County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Shubert-Helton’s body was discovered by a hiker at the Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area on February 21, 2024, during the afternoon hours. The hiker notified Towns County 911 to report the incident. Initial findings suggest that this incident is isolated, with Shubert-Helton believed to have been alone at the wildlife management area.

An autopsy will be conducted at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of Shubert-Helton’s death.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
