Woman Found Dead Near Former Macon-Bibb Tax Assessors Building, Investigation Underway

MACON, Ga. – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered Tuesday morning near the former Macon-Bibb Tax Assessors Building.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded at 10:22 a.m. on Aug. 11 to the 600 block of Second Street near Plum Street Lane after the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center received a report of a deceased person.

When deputies arrived, they found the body of an unidentified woman behind hedges in front of the former Macon-Bibb Tax Assessors Building.

No Signs of Foul Play Observed

Detectives with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to process the scene.

Investigators said they observed no signs of foul play, and the death is believed to be from natural causes, pending further examination.

Authorities have not yet determined the woman’s identity or how long the body had been at the location.

Autopsy Planned

According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, the body will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for examination to determine the woman’s identity as well as the cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
