Camden County Child Exploitation Suspect Anthony Disanto Dies by Suicide in South Carolina
WOODBINE, GA — A multi-month investigation into allegations of child sexual exploitation has come to an end following the suicide of the primary suspect in another state, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Anthony M. Disanto was found dead on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in South Carolina. Active felony arrest warrants had been signed against Disanto by a Camden County Magistrate Judge just prior to his death.
Investigation Sparked by Child’s Report
The complex investigation began on April 1, 2026, when the Camden County Sheriff’s Office received an initial report alleging severe sexual offenses involving a juvenile victim.
Specialized sex-crimes detectives immediately launched a comprehensive probe, which included a specialized forensic interview with the juvenile and an initial interrogation of Disanto, who was identified as the sole suspect in the case.
As physical and digital evidence developed over the subsequent months, investigators established sufficient probable cause to secure formal arrest warrants charging Disanto with multiple offenses related to child sexual exploitation.
Out-of-State Flight Ends in Suicide
Before local deputies could serve the warrants, investigators discovered that Disanto had fled the jurisdiction and relocated to South Carolina.
Camden County authorities began coordinating across state lines with regional judicial and law enforcement agencies to orchestrate an interstate arrest and eventual extradition. However, before the apprehension could take place, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office that Disanto had been found deceased. South Carolina officials have ruled the cause of death as a suicide.
Statement from the Sheriff: Reflecting on the heavy emotional toll of the case, Camden County Sheriff Kevin Chaney issued a formal statement on the resolution of the investigation:
“The exploitation of a child is among the most devastating crimes we investigate. Every allegation is taken seriously, and our investigators work tirelessly to uncover the truth and protect victims. We commend the investigators, staff, and partner agencies for pursuing this case thoroughly and with compassion for the victim involved.”
With the death of the lone suspect, the criminal case is considered closed by law enforcement. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that any suspected child exploitation or abuse should be reported immediately to local authorities at 912-510-5100 or globally via the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline.
