15-Year-Old Injured in Albany Shootout Following Vehicle Crash

ALBANY, Ga. — A 15-year-old was struck by gunfire Tuesday after a dispute following a vehicle crash escalated into a shootout, according to the Albany Police Department.

Police said the shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Whitney Avenue.

Investigators determined the teenager was playing basketball in the backyard of a residence when two vehicles were involved in a crash in a nearby alley.

According to police, one of the drivers became upset after the collision and called additional people to the scene. A shootout then erupted, and the 15-year-old, who was not involved in the dispute, was struck by gunfire.

The victim was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Officers later located two suspects at Oasis and transported them to the Law Enforcement Center, where detectives are interviewing them to determine appropriate charges and identify any additional individuals involved.

The Albany Police Department also addressed rumors circulating on social media, stating that reports claiming three people were killed are false.

The investigation remains active.
