AUGUSTA, Ga. — A 23-year-old man accused in a 2024 homicide has been returned to the United States after being apprehended in Thailand and is now in custody in Richmond County, authorities said.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced that Cedric Alandus Peters was taken into custody by Thai authorities in Bangkok during a coordinated operation after investigators confirmed his location overseas. He was transported back to the United States on Thursday, arriving in Atlanta before being booked into the Clayton County Jail and later transferred to Augusta, where he is currently held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Peters is wanted in connection with the November 2024 killing of 50-year-old Chavious Kemmerlin. Investigators allege Peters unlawfully entered Kemmerlin’s residence on Highland Avenue and fatally shot him before fleeing the country.

Authorities said Peters was located more than 9,000 miles away through coordinated efforts involving federal and international law enforcement partners. Officials reported that he briefly attempted to evade arrest before being taken into custody without further incident.

Peters faces multiple charges in Richmond County, including malice murder, home invasion, burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, criminal trespass, and theft.
