Macon Woman Dies After Being Struck by Van Following Domestic Disturbance
MACON, Ga. – A 42-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a van while lying in a Macon roadway Wednesday night, with investigators now saying she had been involved in a domestic disturbance with a man shortly before the fatal collision.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the collision occurred at approximately 8:11 p.m. on Aug. 12 on Houston Avenue near Charlotte Street.
Investigators said a 69-year-old man driving a white van struck the woman while she was lying in the roadway.
The driver remained at the scene and spoke with deputies. He told investigators that before the collision, he saw a man wearing a white shirt and dark pants standing over what appeared to be an object in the roadway.
Witnesses later told investigators that the object was the woman.
According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses reported that the man moved out of the roadway before the van struck the woman.
Investigators Discover Domestic Disturbance Before Collision
As the investigation continued, deputies learned that the woman and the unidentified man had allegedly been involved in a domestic disturbance before she was struck.
Authorities have not released details about that disturbance, including how the woman came to be lying in the roadway or what happened between her and the man immediately before the collision.
The sheriff’s office has also not announced any arrests or charges in connection with the incident.
The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital following the collision.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones’ office later confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Her name has not yet been released pending notification of her next of kin.
The circumstances surrounding both the domestic disturbance and fatal collision remain under investigation.
