Two Arrested in Savannah Armed Robbery Linked to Online Marketplace Meetup
SAVANNAH, Georgia — Two young men are facing serious charges after police say an online marketplace exchange turned into an armed robbery.
The Savannah Police Department arrested 20-year-old Tyquan Floyd and 18-year-old Ryan Scott in connection to a Feb. 3 robbery in the 2000 block of Tuskegee Street. Both were taken into custody the same day.
Around 3:05 p.m., officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at the location. Investigators determined the incident stemmed from an in-person meetup arranged through an online marketplace. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
After being detained and questioned, Floyd and Scott were each charged with armed robbery. Scott was also charged with aggravated assault.
Savannah Police are using the incident as a reminder about safe transaction practices.
“When doing these marketplace transactions, never do them at home,” said Sgt. Joshua Flynn, SPD Public Information Officer. “Pick a safe place, like a police precinct parking lot. The Savannah Police Department offers all of our locations for you to do so during regular business hours.”
Flynn also encourages the use of electronic payment methods instead of carrying cash, which can make people more vulnerable. The department recently released a public service announcement with additional safety tips on its YouTube page.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or submit an anonymous tip through the Savannah Police Department mobile app.
