Officer Fires One Shot During Domestic Call in DeKalb County
DeKalb County, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man injured late Sunday night in DeKalb County.
According to preliminary information, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on December 28, 2025, on Wood Bend Drive. A DeKalb County Police Department officer had been dispatched to the area in reference to a reported domestic dispute.
When the officer arrived, they encountered a man in the parking lot who appeared to be unrelated to the original call. Police say the officer observed a handgun on the ground near the man and issued verbal commands for him to move away from the weapon and lower himself to the ground at a safe distance.
Authorities say the man did not comply with those commands and instead approached the officer. At that point, the officer fired a single shot, striking the man.
The injured man was transported to a local hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. No officers were injured during the incident.
At the request of the DeKalb County Police Department, the GBI has taken over the investigation, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
No additional information has been released at this time.
