Two Arrested After Gunfire Erupts at Large Bonfire Gathering in Meriwether County
MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. – Deputies responded late Saturday night to reports of gunfire near the 3100 block of Primrose Road in the Zion Hill Community of Grantville.
Around 10:50 PM on Nov. 15, Meriwether County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to find a large gathering at a bonfire hosted by a property owner for his teenage niece. Investigators say uninvited individuals showed up, an altercation followed, and multiple shots were fired in front of several homes.
An 18-year-old man was seriously wounded. He was driven from the scene to the Moreland Fire Station, then taken by Coweta EMS to Piedmont Newnan Hospital before being transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital. His name has not been released.
Witnesses provided information that prompted a BOLO for a vehicle linked to the shooting. Coweta County Sheriff’s officials located the vehicle at the Red Roof Inn near Newnan. Investigators found evidence connected to the incident, which led to the arrest of two suspects.
Akeveion Bowles, 22, of Luthersville, and Deandre Ransom, 20, of LaGrange, are charged with aggravated assault and are being held without bond in the Meriwether County Jail. Additional charges are expected.
The Sheriff’s Office said the event drew unwanted attendees, which contributed to the conflict and gunfire. The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 706-672-4489.
Officials have also requested a review of whether the property owner and event hosts followed county ordinances related to gatherings.
