Former Jasper Police Officer Arrested After On-Duty Altercation Inside Man’s Home

JASPER, Ga. – A former Jasper Police Department officer has been arrested on multiple charges, including false imprisonment and violation of oath of office, following a GBI investigation into his conduct during an on-duty encounter inside a man’s home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Monday, Aug. 24, that John Massey, 31, of Jasper, was arrested and charged with two counts of Simple Battery, one count of Criminal Trespass, one count of False Imprisonment and one count of Violation of Oath of Office.

The investigation centers on an incident that occurred March 25, 2026, while Massey was working as a Jasper police officer.

According to the GBI, Massey responded to a call concerning a man who was allegedly disturbing the peace. When Massey encountered the man at the location of the call, investigators said the officer entered the man’s home.

A physical altercation subsequently occurred between Massey and the man, according to the GBI.

The agency did not disclose what allegedly happened during the confrontation or provide details about what led investigators to pursue the criminal charges.

District Attorney Requested Independent GBI Investigation

On May 20, the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation into allegations involving Massey’s actions while on duty.

Massey is now described by the GBI as a former Jasper Police Department officer. The agency did not provide details about when or why his employment with the department ended.

Following his arrest, Massey was booked into the Pickens County Detention Center.
