GBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Crisp County That Left Suspect Dead
CRISP COUNTY, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Crisp County, which resulted in the death of one man. No law enforcement officers were injured.
According to preliminary information, on Friday, November 7, 2025, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office received information that 25-year-old Deonte Rashad Calhoun of Tifton, Georgia, was traveling to Crisp County and was wanted on four counts of aggravated assault. Deputies located Calhoun on Frontage Road in Cordele and attempted a traffic stop.
Calhoun exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a pursuit by deputies. During the chase, an exchange of gunfire occurred. Calhoun was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
Early findings from the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office and evidence gathered during the investigation indicate that Calhoun died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. GBI agents have met with Calhoun’s family to provide them with updates.
Once the investigation concludes, the case file will be submitted to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
