Marietta Man Arrested After Assaulting Elderly Victim with Wooden Object
Arrested: Onur Yenihayat

Cobb County Police arrested a Marietta man after a violent assault left a 77-year-old victim hospitalized Wednesday late night, August 20, 2025.

Officers from Precinct 4 responded to multiple 911 calls around the 3000 block of Sandy Plains Road after reports of a possible vehicle strike. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim on the sidewalk suffering from head injuries. Initial reports of a shooting circulating on social media were determined to be false.

Investigators learned that the victim had returned home and found 29-year-old Onur Yenihayat inside his bedroom without permission. When confronted, Yenihayat allegedly struck the victim several times in the head with a piece of wood before the victim escaped to the sidewalk.

Officers established a perimeter and executed a search warrant at the home but found the suspect had already fled. License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras later showed his vehicle leaving the area shortly after the assault.

At approximately 2:14 a.m., officers located Yenihayat driving on Shallowford Road near the scene. He was taken into custody without incident.

Yenihayat faces charges including aggravated assault, with additional charges pending.

The Cobb County Police Department Major Crimes Unit is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators at 770-499-3945.
