Final Suspect in Oglethorpe Mall Shooting Turns Himself In

On Thursday, July 31, 16-year-old Franklin James surrendered to authorities, becoming the sixth and final named suspect in the July 2 shooting at Oglethorpe Mall.
James faces charges including felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, and possession of a handgun by a minor. Five others—Aujawan Hymon, Theron Robbins, Royce Haynes, Dahmil Johnson, and Johnathan Jones—had already been charged in connection with the incident.
Savannah Chief of Police Lenny B. Gunther praised the investigation teams and partner agencies for their dedication. “They have made it clear that those who inflict gun violence in our city will be held accountable.”
The Savannah Police Department thanked the public for their valuable tips, which greatly aided the case.
