Savannah Shooting on Pennsylvania Ave. Leaves Man Hurt, Juvenile Charged

SAVANNAH, Georgia – The Savannah Police Department is investigating a Tuesday afternoon shooting in the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue that left an adult man with a non-life-threatening injury. A male juvenile faces a firearms charge in the case.
Eastside Precinct officers responded around 3:17 p.m. on November 3 after reports of a shooting. They found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.
EMS took the man to Memorial Health University Medical Center for treatment.
Juveniles identified overnight
Detectives, with help from Patrol, worked through the night and identified several juveniles connected to the shooting, according to police.
One male juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm by a person under 18. He was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center. Police did not release his name.
The investigation led officers to seize multiple firearms, police said. The department did not say how many guns it took or where officers found them.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and they will release more information as it becomes available.
Police urge parents to secure guns
Assistant Chief Robert Gavin used the case to urge parents and family members to keep guns away from children.
“Parents and family members are the first line of defense in making sure children don’t have access to illegal firearms,” said Assistant Chief Robert Gavin. “If you own any firearms, make sure they are secured and that ammunition is stored in a separate, lockable location. Most of all, play an active role in your child’s life. Know who they are spending time with and pay attention to any changes in behavior.”
