Suspect in Custody After Body Discovered in Newton County Woods

Newton County deputies are investigating after a dead body was discovered in a wooded area off Stephenson Road in Covington on Wednesday, June 18, at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Following a thorough investigation, one suspect has been taken into custody. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect and the victim were known to each other.

The identities of both the victim and the suspect will be released pending notification of the victim’s next of kin.

Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office extended their condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the victim.
