Gunfire Erupts at Covington Park Birthday Party; Police Investigate

The Covington Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred during a private event at Academy Springs Park today, where an unidentified male fired multiple shots during an altercation.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at the park on May 25, 2025. Upon arrival, they secured the scene and began an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that an argument erupted during a birthday party between a male victim and the mother of his child. The disagreement escalated over personal issues, specifically concerning the victim’s attendance and who he brought with him.

The altercation moved outside to the park’s playground area as the victims attempted to leave. At that point, an unidentified male fired at least three rounds in the direction of the victims. Two of the rounds struck a vehicle that the victims were using for cover. No injuries were reported from the gunfire.
