Community Festival to Raise Mental Health Awareness Set for November 9 in Macon; Volunteers Needed

The Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia (FCC) is hosting a Community Festival at Rosa Jackson Recreation Center on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly event aims to raise awareness about early childhood mental health and provide resources for families and individuals of all ages.

“The goal of the event is to raise awareness for early childhood mental health by including non-profit partners who will provide information and resources to those who attend,” said FCC Executive Director Christy Henry. “We are accomplishing this in conjunction with a free, fun and safe event for children and families.”

The carnival-themed festival will feature games, food, and activities. Local non-profit organizations are invited to participate by hosting games or providing resources. The event will honor Chsandra Johnson, a former case manager at FCC and dedicated mental health advocate in the East Macon community.

In addition to the festival, FCC has received a $40,000 grant from Macon Violence Prevention to provide therapy services. These services include individual and group sessions for at-risk individuals and parents of at-risk children, supporting approximately 2,000 hours of direct and preparatory therapy work.
