Fourth Suspect Arrested in July 2024 Murder of 18-Year-Old in Newton County

On September 11, 2024, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) arrested Caryon Grier, 19, of Conyers, in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Damenica Roddy. Grier faces multiple charges including murder, possession of a firearm, and three counts of aggravated assault.

The arrest of Grier follows the earlier apprehension of three other suspects:

  • Tirell Tommie, 19, of Covington, was arrested on August 21, 2024.
  • Israel Richardson, 19, of Covington, was also arrested on August 21, 2024.
  • Savion Walker, 19, of Covington, was arrested on August 23, 2024.

In addition to the charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm, Tommie, Richardson, and Walker face additional charges of false statements or writings.

The arrests were the result of an extensive investigation by the NCSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The investigation involved collaboration with the NCSO Crime Analyst Unit, Special Investigations Division, and SWAT team.

Sheriff Ezell Brown praised the dedication and efforts of all involved in the investigation. He also expressed gratitude to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which assisted in apprehending Savion Walker upon his return to the United States.

All four suspects are currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center.
