Macon Teen Arrested After Armed Robbery, Foot Chase Near Elementary School
MACON, Ga. — An 18-year-old Macon man was arrested Friday after deputies said he robbed a person at gunpoint and fled on a stolen mountain bike before leading officers on a foot chase near an elementary school.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just before 1:30 p.m. to Second Street near Ash Street after receiving reports of an armed robbery.
Investigators said the suspect brandished a firearm and stole the victim’s mountain bike before fleeing the area.
Deputies later spotted the suspect, who abandoned the bicycle and ran on foot, authorities said.
The chase partially crossed onto the grounds of Ingram Pye Elementary School, prompting deputies to request a temporary lockdown at the school as a precaution.
During the pursuit, deputies observed the suspect was armed and said he discarded the firearm before being taken into custody.
Authorities later recovered the weapon and determined it had been reported stolen.
The stolen bicycle was recovered and returned to the victim, according to investigators.
No injuries were reported.
Officials identified the suspect as 18-year-old Timothy Josiah Black of Macon.
Black was transported to the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division for questioning before being booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
He is charged with Armed Robbery and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and is being held without bond.
