Annual Witches Float Returns to Macon on October 5
MACON, Ga.—Macon’s annual Witches Float is making its return to the Ocmulgee River on Sunday, October 5, after last year’s event was canceled due to Hurricane Helene.
The event, now presented by Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions and sponsored by Visit Macon, will feature costumed paddlers floating down the river. The Witches Float began five years ago as a fundraiser to combat period poverty and will continue to support the nonprofit Macon Periods Easier.
“We are so thankful that Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions is stepping in to keep this beloved event alive and well,” said Carly King, Marketing Manager for Visit Macon.
Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and decorate their flotation devices. A guest judge will award a prize for Best Dressed. Attendees who bring a feminine product donation for Macon Periods Easier will be entered to win prizes, including a free paddle excursion.
Tickets for the event, which range from $20 to $85, can be purchased on FareHarbor. Rentals for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards are available, or participants can bring their own.
Check-in will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Porter Pavilion in Amerson River Park. Shuttles will transport paddlers to the launch point, with the float scheduled to depart at 3:30 p.m. from the Amerson River Park Jay Hall Memorial Canoe Launch. The float will end at the Bragg Jam South River Access.
Macon was recently named by HGTV as a “Best Small Town to Celebrate Halloween” and profiled by Travel+Leisure Magazine as a top Halloween destination.
