East Macon to Host First Annual EastSideOutLoud Unity Day on MLK Weekend
The East Macon community is set to launch its first annual EastSideOutLoud Unity Day, a celebration of unity, pride, and progress, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2-6 p.m. Strategically scheduled during MLK Weekend, the event honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy while highlighting the community’s achievements and spirit.
The festivities will begin with a parade starting at Burdell Hunt Elementary School, proceeding down Maynard Street, and ending at Rosa Jackson Recreation Center. Featuring students, parents, educators, and community leaders, the parade promises to showcase the diversity and energy of East Macon.
Following the parade, attendees will gather for a pep rally at the Rosa Jackson Recreation Center. Highlights of the rally include:
- Live music from local DJs
- Activities and community resources
- Local vendors displaying their talents and goods
- Recognition of community accomplishments
A focal point of the event will be honoring local sports champions, including the Northeast Raiders, All-City Champions, Regional Champions, and Georgia State Champion Runner-Ups. These young athletes exemplify the values of perseverance and teamwork cherished by the community.
“EastSideOutLoud Unity Day is more than just a celebration; it’s a movement that embodies Dr. King’s vision of peace, unity, and collective strength,” said Marshall Talley, community organizer. “This event will serve as an annual reminder of the power we hold when we come together as one community.”
EastSideOutLoud Unity Day is expected to become a cherished tradition, reinforcing community bonds, celebrating achievements, and providing a platform for the voices of East Macon residents.
