Athens Man Arrested After Two-Year Check Fraud and Mail Theft Investigation
Fraudulent checks seized from search of Brown's residence

On May 29, 2025, the Athens-Clarke County Police Property Crimes Unit and the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force executed a search warrant in the 200 block of Jennings Mill Parkway following a two-year investigation into mail theft, check manufacturing, and forgery.

During the search, investigators arrested 30-year-old Alex Brown of Athens, Georgia. Inside Brown’s residence, authorities discovered numerous stolen and manufactured checks, stolen identification documents, stolen mail, and tools used for creating fraudulent checks, including blank check stock paper and a magnetic ink cartridge.

Brown was charged with 16 felony offenses. Additional warrants are expected as the investigation continues.
