Three Families Celebrate New Beginnings as Habitat for Humanity Dedicates Homes on Dorothy Avenue

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity held a Home Dedication Ceremony to celebrate the completion of three new homes on Dorothy Avenue in Lynmore Estates. The event honored the Ferguson, Blackwell, and Williams families as they received the keys to their new homes.
The homes were built on land previously occupied by blighted structures, cleared through Macon-Bibb County’s Blight Fight initiative. The transformation highlights the power of community collaboration in converting neglected properties into thriving neighborhoods.
“Working together to strengthen families and our neighborhoods is what Team Macon-Bibb is all about,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We removed dangerous, blighted houses from this property and with help from Habitat for Humanity, we are now welcoming four families into something safe and beautiful that they will now call home.”
Macon Habitat Executive Director Ivey Hall emphasized the impact of volunteer and donor support in addressing the growing need for affordable housing. “We are so thankful for the many donors and volunteers who helped these families achieve their dreams of homeownership,” Hall said.
Key contributors to the project include Macon-Bibb County HOME Investment, Macon Bacon, Mercer University organizations, Citizens of Georgia Power, Whirlpool, Lowe Electric, and many others.
Faith Build and Women Build partners also played a significant role. Faith Build churches included Vineville United Methodist, Ingleside Baptist, and others. The 2025 Women Build Teams featured local businesses, organizations, and schools such as Robins Financial Credit Union, Texas Roadhouse, and Springdale Elementary School.
The dedication ceremony marked a significant milestone in Macon’s ongoing efforts to provide safe and affordable housing for all residents.
