Man Sentenced to 45 Years After Shooting at Catoosa County Deputy

Travis Downie pled guilty in Catoosa County Superior Court on February 25, 2025, to multiple charges including Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine between 4 and 28 grams, Stalking, Harassing Communications, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The charges stem from a May 26, 2024, incident in which Downie fired several shots at a responding Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol car on American Boulevard. Downie fled the scene but was located nearby by a K-9 officer. He later cooperated with deputies by showing them where he had hidden the firearm under a porch.
Downie was sentenced to 45 years, with 18 years to be served without the possibility of parole as a recidivist. He has an extensive felony record in Hamilton County, Tennessee, and crossed into Northwest Georgia prior to the incident.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Beth Evans. District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller praised the outcome, emphasizing support for law enforcement officers facing violent threats.
