Thunder Task Force Targets Drunk and Drugged Driving in Warner Robins This Weekend
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s (GOHS) Thunder Task Force will launch a three-day traffic enforcement operation beginning Thursday, January 31, in Warner Robins. The operation aims to combat drunk and drugged driving, speeding, distracted driving, seat belt violations, and other traffic offenses.
Warner Robins Police, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Middle Georgia Traffic Enforcement Network, and GOHS Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) Units will work together during the operation. The task force will target drunk and drugged drivers with checkpoints on Friday and Saturday nights, enforcing Georgia’s Hands-free law and seat belt regulations.
Drivers in the Warner Robins area should expect law enforcement vehicles conducting traffic stops and DUI checkpoints from Thursday morning through early Sunday. Officers will strictly enforce Georgia’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to either change lanes or slow down when passing a law enforcement vehicle with its safety lights on.
Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Director Allen Poole stressed the importance of planning for a designated driver, warning that drivers found with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher will be arrested with no exceptions.
According to federal and state crash data, impaired driving continues to be a significant factor in fatal crashes in Warner Robins. From 2018 to 2022, 28 percent of fatal crashes involved a driver with a BAC over the legal limit.
“This operation is about saving lives,” said Roger Hayes, GOHS Law Enforcement Services Director. “We want to keep impaired drivers off the road, and we’re giving you a warning now—there will be no second chances for those caught driving under the influence.”
Local agencies will continue focused enforcement efforts in the coming months to reduce drunk and drugged driving accidents.
