Lindley Middle School Locked Down After Student’s Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Lindley Middle School, located at 50 Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton, GA, was placed on lockdown Wednesday, January 15, 2025, following an incident in which a student suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The school was secured by police after reports of a person being shot.
The student, who is in critical condition, was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. The lockdown, described as a “Code Red,” was implemented as a precaution while authorities responded to the scene.
Chairwoman Lisa Cupid issued a statement expressing her concern for the student and the school community: “My heart goes out to the student, their family, and the entire Lindley Middle School community. Please exercise caution when driving near the school due to increased activity in the area. I also encourage everyone to prioritize the emotional well-being of our children, who often carry burdens that may not always be apparent.”
Cupid also provided resources for those affected by the incident. “In Cobb County, visit findhelp.cobbcounty.gov for local assistance. Additionally, the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by calling or texting 988.”
At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to provide support to the school and the student’s family during this difficult time.
