Arrest Made in November Fatal Shooting in Augusta

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday, January 3, 2025, the arrest of 25-year-old De’Narian Cobb from Waynesboro in connection with the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Chavious Kimmerlin in Augusta on November 21, 2024.

Kimmerlin was found deceased at his home in the 500 block of Highland Avenue, and Cobb was located on December 11, 2024, at his residence on the 500 block of Eighth Street in Waynesboro. Deputies from both Richmond and Burke counties went to his home to question Cobb about the shooting. After their interview, Richmond County investigators established enough probable cause to secure an arrest warrant.

Cobb is currently in the Burke County Detention Center, facing charges related to incidents in that jurisdiction. Upon completion of the judicial process in Burke County, Cobb will be extradited to Richmond County to face charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
