Human Remains Discovered in Submerged Vehicle Linked to 1980 Missing Persons Case in Glynn County

Glynn County Police, in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, are investigating the discovery of human remains in a submerged vehicle found Friday, November 22, 2024, in a pond between the Royal Inn Hotel and Interstate 95 on New Jesup Highway.

The vehicle, a Lincoln Continental, was located by the Sunshine State Sonar Team from Florida. The vehicle’s description matches that of one Charles and Catherine Romer were believed to be driving when they were reported missing in April 1980.

Upon locating the vehicle, investigators, with the assistance of the Camden County Dive Team, discovered one human bone inside the car. The pond is currently being drained to facilitate a thorough search for additional remains.

At this time, authorities have not confirmed the identity of the remains. The investigation is ongoing, and special equipment is being used to ensure a detailed examination of the site.
