As Thanksgiving approaches, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is urging the community to take precautions when deep frying turkeys. While turkey frying has become a popular way to prepare the holiday meal, it also poses significant fire risks if not done safely.

Each year, turkey fryers are linked to hundreds of fires, injuries, and property damage across the country. To help ensure a safe Thanksgiving, the Fire Department has outlined essential safety tips for frying turkeys:

Choose a flat, level surface: Place the fryer on a stable, non-flammable surface such as concrete.

Thoroughly thaw the turkey: Ensure the turkey is fully thawed to avoid oil splattering or boiling over, which can lead to burns or fires.
