The Warner Robins Police Department is launching Operation Lay It Down, a proactive initiative to address gun violence in the community. This collaborative effort, led by the Warner Robins Police Department in partnership with local agencies, is aimed at reducing gun-related incidents by providing a safe, anonymous opportunity for residents to surrender unwanted firearms.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Perkins Park, located at 105 Mulberry Court in Warner Robins. This initiative offers heads of households, parents, and responsible adults a chance to turn in firearms that may have been found or do not belong in their homes, all without fear of legal consequences. The program seeks to prevent tragedies associated with gun violence and reduce the number of stolen firearms that can contribute to crime.

Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “By providing a safe space for our community members to turn in unwanted firearms, we hope to prevent potential tragedies and reduce the number of stolen firearms that can lead to crime. Our goal is to promote safety and awareness while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners.”

Mayor LaRhonda Patrick also voiced her support for the program, recognizing the role the community plays in fostering safety. “Operation Lay It Down is a critical step toward fostering a safer environment for all our residents. By addressing gun violence head-on, we can create positive change and protect our neighborhoods,” she said.

All firearms collected will be securely handled by law enforcement, and any stolen items will be returned to their rightful owners. For additional information about the event, Sgt. Allen with the Warner Robins Police Department can be contacted at 478-302-5378 or pallen@wrga.gov.
