Gunfire Exchange in Douglas Leaves One Injured, Police Seek Community’s Help

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers from the Douglas Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the southeast area of the city. The incident spanned several blocks, including the 600 block of Roper Street, 800 block of Sears Street, 1500 block of Leader Street, and the 500-600 block of McLean Street. When officers arrived, all individuals involved had fled the scene.

At 7:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Coffee Regional Medical Center Emergency Room, where a 25-year-old man, Jaquan Tovarez Moore, had arrived with multiple gunshot wounds. Moore provided little information about how or where he sustained the injuries. He was later transported for further treatment.

Initial investigations suggest that 7 to 10 individuals exchanged gunfire during the incident. Evidence also points to some of those involved being high school-aged. While most fled the scene, Moore was unable to leave and remained at the hospital.

The Douglas Police Department is urging residents to assist in addressing ongoing violence in the area and help identify the individuals involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator B. Osteen at bosteen@cityofdouglasga.gov, (912) 384-2222, or the Anonymous Tip Line at (912) 260-3600.
