Fulton County to Honor Veterans at Annual Operation Green Light Ceremony on November 4
Fulton County will pay tribute to local veterans during the Annual Operation Green Light Ceremony at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 4. The public is invited to join Fulton County Vice Chair Khadijah Abdur-Rahman of the “Mighty 6” and District 1 Commissioner Bridget Thorne for this commemorative event in the Atrium of the Government Center, located at 141 Pryor Street, SW in Downtown Atlanta.
Operation Green Light is a national collaborative initiative aimed at supporting military veterans and raising awareness about the unique challenges they face. The ceremony will culminate in the illumination of the Government Center in green from November 4 through Veterans Day on November 11.
“We are honoring the men and women who have fought bravely so that every American and everyone in Fulton County has the freedoms we enjoy today,” stated Vice Chair Abdur-Rahman. “Operation Green Light is an initiative that sends the message that our veterans are seen, supported, and appreciated.”
Commissioner Thorne added, “The mission of Operation Green Light is to show support and raise awareness about the challenges faced by many veterans. This initiative is simply a way for us all to express our extreme gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who dedicated their lives to protect our country.”
Residents are encouraged to participate in Operation Green Light by changing one light bulb in their home to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light visible to neighbors and passersby or an interior light that sparks conversations with friends. Commissioner Thorne also urges businesses and government entities to show their support by illuminating their buildings in green throughout the week.
