The outdoor burn ban has officially been lifted as of October 1, allowing residents to apply for burn permits under updated guidelines. The local Fire Department emphasizes the importance of adhering to the following rules for residential burning:
- Permitted Dates: Burning is allowed from October 1st through April 30th.
- Time Restrictions: Burning is only permitted between 9 a.m. and sunset.
- Material Restrictions: Residents may burn only natural vegetative materials from their property.
- Pile Size Limitations: Burn piles must not exceed 6 feet by 6 feet by 3 feet.
- Distance Requirements: Fires must be at least 50 feet away from any structures and property lines.
- Supervision Mandate: A competent adult must be present to supervise the burn at all times.
- Extinguishment Measures: A functional garden hose or another extinguishing method must be on hand.
- Complete Extinguishment: Fires must be completely out before dark, leaving no smoldering or hot coals.
- Weather Restrictions: Burning is prohibited when sustained winds exceed 10 MPH or during conditions that trap smoke close to the ground.
- Ignition Restrictions: Fires cannot be started with petroleum-based products, including kerosene, gasoline, diesel, or lighter fluid.
